Alaska Glaciers & Fjords Expedition
Trip Overview
Duration: 8 Days
Starts: Juneau, Alaska
Finish: Juneau or Sitka, Alaska
Alaska’s Inside Passage is a world of deep fjords, tidewater glaciers, and wildlife-rich shorelines—but to truly experience it, you need to go small. On this intimate expedition cruise, you’ll trade the crowds of big ships for a vessel designed for exploration. With access to Glacier Bay National Park and other wild corners of the Inside Passage, you’ll get closer to ice and wildlife than most travellers ever do.
Photographers will find endless inspiration in blue ice towering above skiffs, sea lions hauled out on rocky outcrops, and bears foraging along the beaches. Birders will be in their element—scanning for Bald Eagles perched in spruce trees, Harlequin Ducks riding fast-flowing rivers, and both Common and Pacific Loons gliding across mirror-still bays. Along rocky shorelines, look for the striking Black Oystercatcher with its bright orange bill, while near nesting cliffs you may spot Tufted and Horned Puffins, wings whirring as they return to their burrows. And don’t miss the playful rafts of sea otters, rolling and diving through kelp forests with pups resting on their bellies.
The rhythm is slow and flexible guided by weather, tides, and wildlife encounters. You’ll kayak among icebergs, hike moss-carpeted trails, and explore by skiff where larger vessels can’t reach. Naturalists and guides are on hand to share their knowledge, but often it’s the silence—the pause of the engine, the stillness of the fjord—that allows the wild to come close.
